Joan Volk

STAFFORD - Joan Lee Volk passed away on her 71st birthday, November 13, 2010 after a brief battle with cancer. Joan was the eldest daughter of Herman and Dora Lee Dickson. She grew up in Stafford and was a Stafford High School graduate. She was a graduate of the Gale Institute of Minneapolis, MN. She was a longtime resident of Bloomington, MN where she raised her family and worked for Honeywell, Inc. and the Dain Bosworth for 37 years at RBC Dain Rauscher in the OTC Trading Dept. In 2004 Joan returned to her hometown of Stafford. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church, volunteered at the Stafford Senior Center, Stafford County Museum and Meals on Wheels. Joan had a passion for geneology and was considered the family geneologist.
She is survived by her children: Kelly Volk of Houston, TX. Denise Wilson and her husband Clark of Portland, OR.
Two sisters: Cheryl Smith and her husband Jim of Stafford. Vickie Souders and her husband Larry of Houston.
Five grandchildren: Britnee (Kaleb) Shields, Kelsee Volk, Travis Volk, Andrea Wilson and Carissa Wilson. Two great grandchildren: Emma and Rori Shields. She is also survived by her aunts, uncles and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and infant son, Stephen Patrick Volk.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, November 15, 2010 at Calvary Baptist Church, Stafford (located 3 miles north of Stafford on Main Street) with Pastor Jim Dillon presiding. Burial will be at the Stafford Cemetery. Memorials may be sent to the Stafford Senior Center or Stafford County Museum both in care of Minnis Chapel, Stafford.
